update 3/18/20

Good afternoon Mustangs and families,

We hope that everyone is well and taking care of themselves and their family.  We wanted to take a moment to share some additional information with you concerning instructional materials, food and parent resources.

We have created an optional, self-directed learning activity for your children to participate in. It is linked here and is available on our website under “Featured Links.” This material will also be available in paper form at Monticello High School’s food distribution site. Beginning on March 26, subject-specific learning activities will be available.

There are many questions that you have and we may, or may not have answers.  In anticipation of these concerns, we have included a link here for students and families to make inquiries through a google form.  Again, we may not have answers to all your questions, but we will answer all submissions to the best of our ability and post them on a link called’ FAQs,which is available on our website under “Featured Links.”

All school planned activities have been canceled until further notice.

Food for our Community:
Albemarle County Public Schools will be distributing free meals, including breakfast and lunch, to all students and their siblings, 18 years of age or younger. The meals will be available each weekday between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the parking lots of six schools throughout the county.

In addition to our school buildings, all school division offices and departments will be closed beginning Wednesday, March 18. Phones in our schools and department offices will be unmanned, though the division will continue to communicate with families through email, text, voice messages, social media and web posts. If you need to reach the school division in an emergency, please call 434-296-5820. This line is reserved for emergencies and will be answered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Please stay safe and thank you for helping to keep our community healthy.  Albemarle County Public Schools will continue to update us on a regular basis.

Today is, of course, our showcase. Thank you in advance for all of the time and effort that you and your students have put into this. We encourage you to take some time to walk the building for 20 minutes tonight—the break signs are in your mailboxes—and see and experience some of our school’s greatness. Dinner (pizza) will be available after school in the cafeteria.

We would like to invite you to check out the amazing artwork that is being displayed at The Shops at Stonefield March 4-29th.

Also, Kyle L. was highlighted on the news for his artwork created for the Liberation Day Exhibit.

Congrats to all of our students who competed in the State Swimming meet and the State Indoor Track Championships.  Way to go Mustangs!

Directions for Speak Up Survey:
  1. Visit http://bit.ly/acps2020speakup
  2. Select "Monticello" from the list
  3. Select your role in the community
  4. Read instructions and complete the survey

More information: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EQpHYoqlMkbEGNr8rUU4n_LGb4c3Beh5/view including why and how the results are used.

Keys to successful implementation:
  1. Questions often involve multiple answers. For many students this will be a frustrating process. Please encourage and support them. Students with reading concerns could be grouped together and work with the teacher or with other students.
  2. If you see students getting frustrated with the survey questions that read “Choose all that apply,” encourage them to select at least one answer. It’s better data for us to have partial responses than no responses.
  3. Please be sure to take the survey yourself.
  4. Check to ensure your students have completed the survey.
  5. Links to the survey and directions are available in Schoology, PowerSchool Daily Bulletin and have been emailed to students.

An announcement will be made at 10:30 to dismiss sophomores to the auditorium.

There will not be clubs this week.
